Loose Connection

You may have first heard them at the Essex County Fair Car show in May, but this group has been playing together for over three years.  We are excited to present them on Wednesday, August 10 at 7 p.m. on the south stage near the 4-H dairy barn.

The group originates from Port Henry and features George Potter as lead vocalist and guitar, Jon Defelice as vocalist and bass player, Alex Cheney on drums and vocals, and Chris Martin on keyboard and vocals.

The group performs a large variety of music.
Loose Connection is the main band that will be performing for the Champlain Bridge opening on October.  They will be making a CD at the end of August so watch for release dates.

162nd Fair in Retrospect

What a banner year for the Essex County Fair.  Admission doubled even with the competition of VT's Addison Field Days and and Franklin County Fair.

The Torres Three Ring Circus drew huge crowds for every show.  Kids that owned horses rode the pony rides and the petting zoo had the most lovable camel that kept people coming back to the area.  Shot Gun red and his talented crew royally entertained and kept us laughing at the Grand Stand Stage.

The one day of harness racing drew a huge crowd with a filled grand stand.  The dog agility was a new and well attended entity that will grow and the animal shows bloomed as ever with youth with a great future in their chosen projects.   Adult had fun too.

The demolition derby was on Saturday and it grew a bigger crowd than ever!

That is what we are about, fun, family and a small, safe fair to enjoy.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  We hope to see you again this year.  Another great fair is being planned!

History is documented with a blog!

There is little published on the history of the Essex County Fair.  I just realized that wow!  Yea, we have the last three years here in the blog.  So much work goes into planning and the handbook gets printed and plans finalized, but when it comes to documenting the fair, it has gotten left behind.

Technology has brought us into a new phase with something as old and precious as a local county fair.  Documenting the progress and the things that went on during the fair for posterity.  I sure would love to find more history published on the previious 158 fairs.

We are looking for pieces of that history if any one would like to share.  We have a Facebook page just for that.
If you are a Facebook member just type in Essex County Fair in search.   It gives you opportunity to express your thoughts and feelings.  There again we have some history.

The Wild Animal Experience

We are excited to have a newly extablished petting zoo this year. This young couple seems to have a real love for animals and we are excited to have so many species of animals in one zoo. There will be babies to pet so this will be hands on.

The grounds are beginning to come alive

Just think, in two days the Essex County Fair will be in full action. I think you will be pleasantly suprised at all the things that are new this year. Ways of the Woods has their truck and trailer on the grounds and it is right by Floral Hall. Speaking of Floral Hall it will be filled with many vendors, some new and some of the old standbys.

Speaking of moving in, word around the grounds is that the camping area is full and some people are still calling to come in. What a beautiful spot the campsites are in. The views are fenominal from there. Some can even look out their windows and watch all that is going on on the track.

The horse show is looking to be a huge entity this year. The equine hotels reservations have come in steadily, so come check out the different breeds horses and types of English and Western classes. Our show is small compared to many fairs, but those who come, and some come from a distance, think it is the most fun. What I like about our shows is that everyone roots for everybody else. The gymkhana on Sunday is based on individual time and the rooting gets very active. Everyone has a blast. On Saturday night there will be Horses and Music as locals take on the task of showing what they got in an entertainment form of riding. Our county is new to this, but we have had some awesome coreography by some of our riders in the past.

There will be sheep and a pig along with the chickens and rabbits in the small animal barn. Baby chicks and ducklings will be a main attraction in Baby Barn.

Thursday night is Square Dance night with Gary Finney. I know there are many people who love to dance and if your in the mood, come see the fair during the day and swing your partner at night.

Two by two Zoo should be coming in today or tomorrow. It will be exciting to see all their animals. They were here for several years three years ago and it will be nice to have them back again, this year.

The conservation area has a new look and their are will be more fish housed in the new building there.

Of course the sugar house is new this year. Our neighboring counties maple producers have worked diligently to get this set up and will have a variety of maple products to sell.

4-Hers will have the dairy bar on the porch. Procedes go to sponsor 4-H trips. It takes a lot of willing voluteers to manage this, so please stop and get your ice cream fix!
