About our Gardens
The vegetable garden and the herb and flower gardens are contributions of Jiggs and Joanne Gardner of Essex. These are sod gardens meaning raised bed on top of grass ground. It can be done by using round up to kill the grass and weeds or by putting mulch below the compost to keep the grass and weeds from growing through. Each year the Gardners come in early June and plant the garden for our pleasure. We are grateful for their contribution to our grounds.
The Gardeners live in Essex and live the good life of producing for themselves. The following are links to written materials by them. They love to give garden tours at their home and Joanne loves teaching cheese making.

All the herbs and onions and peppers were contributed by Bonnie Plants, Utica, NY who are very generous in giving plants for community gardens such as ours and to places like Horace Nye Home.
If you have a community garden you would like plants for, please contact the Gardners in the spring and they will put you on the list.

162nd Fair in Retrospect
What a banner year for the Essex County Fair. Admission doubled even with the competition of VT's Addison Field Days and and Franklin County Fair.
The Torres Three Ring Circus drew huge crowds for every show. Kids that owned horses rode the pony rides and the petting zoo had the most lovable camel that kept people coming back to the area. Shot Gun red and his talented crew royally entertained and kept us laughing at the Grand Stand Stage.
The one day of harness racing drew a huge crowd with a filled grand stand. The dog agility was a new and well attended entity that will grow and the animal shows bloomed as ever with youth with a great future in their chosen projects. Adult had fun too.
The demolition derby was on Saturday and it grew a bigger crowd than ever!
That is what we are about, fun, family and a small, safe fair to enjoy. Thank you to everyone who attended. We hope to see you again this year. Another great fair is being planned!

History is documented with a blog!
There is little published on the history of the Essex County Fair. I just realized that wow! Yea, we have the last three years here in the blog. So much work goes into planning and the handbook gets printed and plans finalized, but when it comes to documenting the fair, it has gotten left behind.
Technology has brought us into a new phase with something as old and precious as a local county fair. Documenting the progress and the things that went on during the fair for posterity. I sure would love to find more history published on the previious 158 fairs.
We are looking for pieces of that history if any one would like to share. We have a Facebook page just for that.
If you are a Facebook member just type in Essex County Fair in search. It gives you opportunity to express your thoughts and feelings. There again we have some history.

The Wild Animal Experience
We are excited to have a newly extablished petting zoo this year. This young couple seems to have a real love for animals and we are excited to have so many species of animals in one zoo. There will be babies to pet so this will be hands on.
